When the East Coast became the industrialized center of the United States, Maundbury also experienced the boom. The first factory that was built was the Stoddard Mill.

The mill owned by the Stoddard family, at one point was the largest employer after the whaling industry collapsed. At it's peak the mill employed 250 workers.

Stoddard Mill ran until 1953. It had survived the depression and had been retooled to make parachutes for the troops during WWII.

In the 1950's the Stoddard family were planning to rebuild the factory. The cost to do so was more than the factory was worth. They shut it down and it remains empty.
